I. assimilate vừa là ngoại động từ, vừa là nội động từ

- The European Union should remain flexible enough to assimilate more countries quickly. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: assimilate trong câu này là ngoại động từ)
- You shouldn't expect immigrants to assimilate into an alien culture immediately. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: assimilate trong câu này là nội động từ)
II. Nghĩa
1. Lĩnh hội, tiêu hoá ( (nghĩa đen) & (nghĩa bóng)) = to understand and remember new information and make it part of your basic knowledge so that you can use it as your own

- Với nghĩa này, assimilate là nội động từ
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- to assimilate all that one reads (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: tiêu hoá được tất cả những cái mình đọc)
- It's hard to assimilate so much information.
- Do you assimilate all that you read? (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Anh có lĩnh hội được tất cả những gì anh đọc không?)
- The committee will need time to assimilate this report.
- Some people can only assimilate change gradually.
- In this form vitamins can be easily assimilated by the body (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: ở đây assimilate mang đúng nghĩa đen tiêu hoá)
2. đồng hoá = People who are or become assimilated in a society become similar to others by learning and using the customs and culture of the new society

3. Mang nghĩa"làm cho cái gì hoà nhập vào"
=to make an idea, a person’s attitude, etc. fit into something or be acceptable
