1. Cách dùng PEOPLE
1.1. Mang nghĩa Con người / Người / Mọi người (Số nhiều của Person)
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- Many people never do any exercise.
- We've invited 30 people to our party.
- People will think you've gone mad.
- People like to be made to feel important.
- Now that we've discussed our problems, are people happy with the decisions we've made?
1.2. Mang nghĩa dân tộc, một nhóm người, bộ phận người, Tộc người
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- Most of her friends are media people.
- Her people come from Scotland originally.
- The Ancient Egyptians were a fascinating people (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Mang nghĩa dân tộc)
2. Cách dùng THE PEOPLE
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- Mang nghĩa Nhân dân, Quần chúng
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- She claims to be the voice of the people.
- The president has lost the support of the people. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Mất sự ủng hộ của nhân dân)
- The people's Princess
- We'll have to get the people at the city council to look at these plans.
3. Cách dùng PEOPLES
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- PEOPLES là số nhiều của PEOPLE, mang nghĩa dân tộc
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- It is a custom shared by many Native American peoples.
- Customs similar to this one are found among many peoples of the world.
- There are 54 peoples in Vietnam (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: có 54 dân tộc ở Việt Nam)
- The peoples of Asia (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: các dân tộc Châu Á)
4. Cách dùng Person
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- Person là một người, một cá nhân riêng biệt (an individual)
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- Who was the first person to swim the English Channel?
5. Cách dùng Persons
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- Persons = People.
- Dùng Persons với nghĩa trịnh trọng (formal); dùng People với nghĩa chung chung.
- Persons thường được dùng trong các bản tin NEWS REPORTS
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- Four persons have been charged with the murder.
- The plane crashed just after takeoff, killing all 29 persons aboard.
- At least 30 persons are dead or missing
- We expect to catch the person or persons responsible
